Another advantage this has is that if/when something new is brought in to the company, the older generation will have an easier time adapting, as they'll be familiar with it already, from their talks with their colleagues.

Actually, even if they aren't familiar with it, the environment of openness will mean that at the very least, our older users won't feel bad about asking for help

Has it occurred to you that maybe people don't want to be bothered at work to explain things to people who won't understand on the first try anyway?

I think it would be good to perhaps hold weekly mini-workshops which are hosted by different users that have had success with the new tools and then those that are unsure can attend and ask the questions they have. This way, multiple people can be helped at once. This does not have to be more than 30 mins a week.
