I personally feel that having a place for me to go get answers without bothering people would be much better than bothering someone for that program we use once a month and I have no idea where it is or how exactly to use it

The problem is that you're not looking at this with long-term thinking. Yes, on an individual basis, it makes sense for an employee to ask an older one for 5 minutes of time to help with a question. Now have 2 employees asking a question, that's 10 minutes. They each ask 5 questions, you've already spent an hour. And there is no real end to this in sight, as each new employee will have the same questions. Invest time now to save time later.

Who exactly is going to build this database, and who's going to fill it? In the amount of time it takes people to write up their specific knowledge, it just makes sense for new employees to ask the older ones and that's it
