In order for this to work, the trainer must know how to train more than one position. We don't hire enough people to make it worthwhile to hold one trainer for each position, he will have to know how to train 3-4 different types of positions.
I get where you're coming from. I work best when I've got my earphones in, my music on and I'm in the "zone". When that happens, you could set my chair on fire and I wouldn't notice. Forcing me to interact would really help.
Even during lunch, it takes a while for the new guy to become involved. It's just like high school, it takes time for the larger group to accept new members
Plus, this can also help the user get to know all the employees better. Aside from lunch hour, most people work on their own and don't really interact with the rest of the department.
